Newsflash: CBG Varietal Makes a Splash
In case you haven’t heard, the cannabinoid known as CBG is in high demand this year. Strains that are high in CBG are typically very low in THC and have their own special profile. At Hempire State Growers, our CBG varietal—Matterhorn— is a real beauty. Almost 17,000 individual plants of this coveted cultivar grew abundantly this season on our farm/s. The charming shape of the Matterhorn plant was easy to spot in the HSG fields. It looks a bit like an ostrich—full body, long neck, and plenty fluffy!
Why CBG? There is growing evidence that CBG may have a wide range of health benefits. Scientists believe that CBG binds to certain endocannabinoid receptors in the brain that mitigate anxiety and pain. Some researchers claim that CBG also minimizes inflammation and nausea, enhances focus, and works to slow the proliferation of cancer cells. If even one of these claims is true, CBG will prove to be the next rock star cannabinoid.
Matterhorn is a European CBG-rich cultivar created by Matthias Ghidossi, founder of the company Swiss Cannabinoid. Its flower has a delicious lemon-lime, earthy aroma and effervescent citrus flavors when smoked.

There are four additional cultivars that are freshly trimmed and ready for sale: Lifter, Hawaiian Haze, Sour Lifter, and Suver Haze.
Lifter is an Oregon-developed cultivar with an impressive lineage (Suver Haze #50 and Early Resin Berry) that is quickly gaining OG status. With a woody sweet aroma and an earthy flavor with a hint of blueberry, Lifter inspires a lovely feeling of contentment, balanced with focus and elevation.
Hawaiian Haze is an olfactory delight, with a strong tropical fruit aroma and notes of pine and pepper. This varietal delivers a smooth floral taste and has uplifting effects, leaving you centered, with an elevated mood.
Sour Lifter, with an aromatic profile that includes orange, hops, and lavender, comes from a lineage of Sour Diesel and Lifter. This popular cultivar is said to support productivity, creativity, and motivation with an elevating wakefulness.
Suver Haze, is a classic hemp strain that is a hybrid of Suver #8 and Early Resin Berry. With an intoxicating terpene profile including aromas of orange and black pepper and a sour apple taste, this is a high CBD content strain producing relaxation and a lifted mood.
